Privacy policy

How TaxFile, the AI tax software that reads your forms, finds the deductions and credits you qualify for, and prepares a return you approve, collects, uses and protects your information. Last updated: June 2026.

The short version

TaxFile helps you prepare and e-file your US federal and state income tax return. To do that, we handle sensitive personal and financial information, including the tax documents you provide. We collect only what is needed to prepare your return and operate this site, we protect it with bank-level 256-bit encryption, and we never sell it. You review and approve your return before anything is e-filed through an authorized IRS e-file provider. TaxFile is self-prepared tax software, not personalized tax advice.

What we collect

  • Account information. The email address you provide when you sign up or contact us, along with basic account details. We use a short verification code to confirm your email.
  • Tax documents and financial information. If you use the product to prepare a return, the tax documents and financial details you choose to provide, such as W-2s, 1099-NEC, 1099-K and 1099-MISC forms, receipts and expense records, income, deductions, dependents and the figures parsed from them. This information is provided by you and used to prepare your return.
  • Site and usage data. When you visit taxfile.ai, we collect aggregate analytics about how the site is used and standard log data such as IP address, browser type and the page or campaign you arrived from, used for security and to understand traffic sources.

The interactive preview on this website runs on sample data. It does not prepare a real return, and nothing you type into it is uploaded or filed.

How we use your information

  • To prepare your federal and state income tax return, read the documents you provide, find the deductions and credits you qualify for, run an error and audit-risk check, and produce a review-ready return.
  • To transmit your approved return for e-filing through an authorized IRS e-file provider, only after you have reviewed and approved it.
  • To create and operate your account, verify your email address, process payments and provide support.
  • To keep the service secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and meet our legal and tax-related recordkeeping obligations.

We do not use your tax documents or financial information for advertising, and we do not sell it. TaxFile finds the deductions and credits you qualify for and prepares an accurate return. It does not give personalized tax advice and never promises a guaranteed refund.

Security

Your tax documents and financial information are protected with bank-level 256-bit encryption, both in transit and at rest. We practice data minimization, collecting only the information needed to prepare your return, and we restrict access to it to the systems and personnel that need it to deliver the service. We do not make accuracy-percentage or audit-proof claims, but we work hard to keep your data safe and to catch errors before you file.

We never sell your data

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal or financial information to anyone. Your tax data is used to prepare your return and operate your account, and for nothing else.

Data retention

We retain your account information and the tax records associated with a filed return for as long as your account is active and for the period required to meet tax, legal and recordkeeping obligations, after which it is deleted or anonymized. Tax records often need to be kept for several years under federal and state rules, so a copy of a filed return may be retained accordingly. You can request deletion of information that we are not required to keep.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email us at team@taxfile.ai and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

Third parties

We share information only as needed to provide the service. This includes an authorized IRS e-file provider that transmits your approved return for e-filing, a payment processor that handles billing, and infrastructure and email providers that help us run the site securely. These providers act on our behalf under contractual obligations and are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes. TaxFile is not affiliated with the IRS.

Cookies and analytics

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to operate the site, and limited analytics to understand how the site is used so we can improve it. We do not use this data to build advertising profiles from your tax information. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

Children

TaxFile is intended for adults filing their own or their household's taxes. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age required by applicable law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Continued use of the service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
