Terms of service
The terms that govern your use of TaxFile, the AI tax software that reads your forms, finds the deductions and credits you qualify for, and prepares a return you review and approve before it is e-filed. Last updated: June 2026.
1. Acceptance of these terms
By creating an account or using taxfile.ai and its services, you agree to these terms of service. If you do not agree, do not use the service. You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement to use TaxFile. If you use the service on behalf of a business, you represent that you are authorized to bind that business to these terms.
2. Description of the service
TaxFile is self-prepared tax software. You upload your tax documents or answer questions, and the AI helps you prepare your US federal and state income tax return, reads your documents, surfaces the deductions and credits you may qualify for, and runs an error and audit-risk check. TaxFile is not a tax preparer, CPA or law firm, and it does not provide personalized tax, legal or accounting advice. For advice specific to your situation, consult a CPA or tax professional. TaxFile is not affiliated with the IRS.
3. Your responsibilities
You are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the information you provide. The return TaxFile prepares is only as accurate as the documents, figures and answers you give it. You agree to review your return carefully and to confirm that every figure is correct before you approve it. You, not TaxFile, are responsible for the contents of the return you file. You agree to keep your account credentials secure and to use the service only for your own or your household's or business's tax filing.
4. Review and approval before filing
TaxFile never files silently. Before any return is transmitted, you must review a plain-language summary of the return and explicitly approve it. Nothing is e-filed until you approve it. By approving a return, you confirm that you have reviewed it and that the information in it is true and complete to the best of your knowledge.
5. No guarantee of any particular refund or outcome
TaxFile finds the deductions and credits you qualify for and helps you prepare an accurate return, but it does not guarantee any particular refund, balance due or other tax outcome. Your refund or amount owed depends on your actual income, deductions, credits and circumstances. We make no guaranteed-refund claim and no claim that any return is audit-proof. The error and audit-risk check is a helpful tool, not a guarantee against errors or audits.
6. E-filing through an authorized IRS e-file provider
When you approve your return, it is transmitted for e-filing through an authorized IRS e-file provider. Acceptance or rejection of an e-filed return is determined by the IRS and applicable state tax authorities, not by TaxFile. If a return is rejected, we will help you correct and resubmit it where possible. TaxFile does not control the timing of any refund, which is determined by the IRS and state authorities.
7. Payments and pricing
TaxFile uses simple per-return pricing in USD and has no free plan. The Simple plan is 39 dollars for straightforward W-2 returns, Self-Employed is 89 dollars for freelancers, contractors and 1099 filers, and Business is 199 dollars for small business returns, with an Enterprise option available. State returns are an additional 19 dollars per state. Prices may change, and the price shown at the time you file applies to that filing. Fees for a completed filing are non-refundable except where required by law.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to use TaxFile to prepare or file a fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate return, to submit information that is not yours or that you are not authorized to submit, to attempt to access another user's account or data, to reverse engineer, scrape or disrupt the service, or to use it in violation of any applicable law. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
9. Disclaimers
The service is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. TaxFile is self-prepared tax software and not a substitute for personalized advice from a qualified tax professional. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or that it will produce any particular tax result.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, TaxFile and its affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any taxes, penalties or interest assessed against you, that result from inaccurate information you provided or from your review and approval of a return. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us for the filing giving rise to the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which TaxFile is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts located there, unless applicable law provides otherwise.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Continued use of the service after an update means you accept the revised terms.
