TaxFile

Security and privacy

How we protect your tax data

Your tax return holds some of the most sensitive information you own. TaxFile is built so that data is encrypted, kept to a minimum, never sold, and only ever used to prepare the return you review and approve.

The basics

Built to keep your financial information safe

Bank-level encryption

Your data is protected with bank-level 256-bit encryption in transit and at rest, the same class of protection banks use, so your documents and figures stay private.

Data minimization

We collect only what is needed to prepare your return and operate the site. We do not ask for information your return does not require.

Never sold

We never sell your tax data or your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. Your data is yours.

Authorized IRS e-file

When you approve your return, e-filing is submitted through an authorized IRS e-file provider. TaxFile is not the IRS and is not government-affiliated.

You stay in control

Nothing is filed silently. You review and approve every figure on your return before anything is submitted, and you decide when.

Access controls

Access to your information is limited and logged, and the AI uses your data only to prepare your return, not for any other purpose.

Encryption, end to end

Every connection to TaxFile is secured with modern TLS, and the sensitive data you provide is encrypted at rest. That means the documents you upload and the figures parsed from them are protected with bank-level 256-bit encryption whether they are moving across the network or stored.

We keep less, on purpose

The safest data is the data we never hold. TaxFile asks only for what a return actually needs, and we minimize what we retain. We do not sell your information, and we do not use your tax data to target you with advertising. For the full detail on what we collect and how long we keep it, read our privacy policy.

You approve before anything is filed

TaxFile never files silently. It prepares your return and explains every figure in plain English, then you review and approve it. Only then is the return e-filed, and that submission is made through an authorized IRS e-file provider. You are always the one who decides when to file.

The most secure way to handle your tax data is to encrypt it, collect as little as possible, never sell it, and let you approve every figure before it is filed.

Not tax advice

TaxFile is self-prepared tax software, not personalized tax, legal or accounting advice. You review and approve your return before filing. For complex situations, consult a CPA or tax professional. See our disclaimer for more.
